What everyday things really cost, then and now.

Price Tag Pete is a small, independent creator project. We make short vertical videos that animate the real price history of everyday items (eggs, ground beef, gas, coffee, bread) and then show what those prices look like after adjusting for inflation.

Where the numbers come from

Every number comes from public U.S. government data: the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Average Price series and the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U), downloaded through the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis's FRED service. The source is shown on screen in each video. BLS data is in the public domain (BLS copyright information).

The videos are drawn entirely with code (charts, counters and text) with original, code-synthesized music. They contain no AI-generated images, video or voices.

Price Tag Pete Studio (our posting tool)

Price Tag Pete Studio is a small desktop tool we built to publish our own finished videos to TikTok. It is a private tool for the Price Tag Pete project's own TikTok account. It is not offered to the public and does not post anyone else's content. Here is exactly what it does:

  1. You click Continue with TikTok and sign in on TikTok's own authorization page (Login Kit). The tool never sees your TikTok password.
  2. The tool asks TikTok which account is connected and which privacy options that account allows, and shows the account's nickname so you always know where a video will go.
  3. You pick one of our finished video files, review a preview, edit the caption, choose who can see it, choose whether comments, Duets and Stitches are allowed, and declare any commercial content.
  4. Only when you click Post does the tool upload the file to TikTok through the official Content Posting API, either as a post or as a draft sent to your TikTok inbox for you to finish in the TikTok app.
  5. The tool then shows the post's processing status. It can take a few minutes for a post to appear on the profile.

The tool never adds watermarks, logos or links to videos, never changes your settings, and never posts without you clicking Post. You can disconnect it at any time from the tool or from TikTok's app settings.
